It is popularly known as Eyüp Sultan, whose name comes from Abu Eyyüb El-Ensari, the companion of our Prophet. His Majesty Eyüp Sultan was martyred in the siege of Istanbul in 668-669. According to his will, he was buried at the point closest to the walls. Years later, his grave was found and a mausoleum was built over it. In 1458, a mosque, madrasah and soup kitchen were built next to the tomb by Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
